February 2017 Birchbox

It’s Birchbox time! This month I wanted to try something new, so I made a video of the unboxing. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/3BKgb3MDUa4

Birchbox have teamed up with British Stationary brand Papier, and subscribers have the choice of choosing between two design options, ‘Forest Fern’ or ‘Russet Foliage’. Both are breathtaking, but I’ve chosen the green and white coloured box because it reminds me of Spring, and I can’t wait for Spring to be here. I’m not a Winter person. Birchbox also ran a promotion where subscribers can get a ‘Dream Big’ notebook by Papier for the reduced price of £8 in one of the two designs. I chose not to get the notebook because I have about a million notebooks already.

I got 5 products again this month, two full size products and three tester size products. I’ve also got two Birchbox Exclusive products, which is quite exciting, especially as I can use my points to buy them if I love them. I’ve got a good mix of different types of products again this month, one hair care, two skin care and two make up products.

The first product I see is the Spectrum Brush size C06, which is a full size product. This brush was one of the sneak peeks that was revealed to subscribers before the boxes were sent out. The brush looks really fluffy, which suits me perfectly as I don’t have many larger eyeshadow blending brushes. The handle seems a little thicker than my other brushes too, it feels really nice and a bit weighty in my hands, which I’m hoping is going to make it a dream to use. I’m looking forward to playing with this and seeing what it can do.

The POP Beauty palette was also announced before delivery, at the same time as the Spectrum Brush. This trio of eyeshadows is in ‘Champagne Mocha’ and whilst it doesn’t give individual shade names for the colours, there is a light, medium and dark tone to play around with. It’s a mini palette to achieve a smokey eye look, and the colours should work really well with the brush. Whether your make up box is brimming with eyeshadow or not, my view is that you can’t have too many eyeshadow colours. I am super happy, loving what I’ve seen so far.

If you’ve watched my unboxing video you might pick up on my surprise at the name of the next product. Beaver professional. The name of this product has made me smile a lot. The product is a conditioner, and is great for repair which is perfect as my hair could always use a little more tlc.

The Vasanti face rejuvenator is the first of my exclusive products. My Birchbox card seems to be misprinted as it’s given me directions for shaving foam, but that’s okay as the packaging comes with its own description and directions. It mentions papaya, aloe vera, coconut…. it sounds lovely and will go well with my Limited Edition Skincare box.

The last product I have to try is a Keeome Hydration Therapy Mask, which is a full size product and a Birchbox exclusive. Birchbox teased us during the sneak peeks by telling us that we would have a Korean Beauty (a.k.a. K-Beauty) product included, and claim the k-beauty is 7 years ahead. We were told we could have been one of a number of products, I love a face mask so this is perfect for me.

At first glance this looks like another solid, well put together box by Birchbox. I can’t wait to try all of the products, and it’s really nice to know that there are a few items that I’ll still be using when next months box arrives. I’ll review all the products in more detail throughout the month, and I’ll update this post at the end of the month with my final thoughts on the box, and my favourite products.

Edit: 19th February – my first impression of this Birchbox was really good, and the box didn’t let me down. From the best prices I could find online, I received a total of £28.76 worth of products, which makes my box excellent value for money. I didn’t warm to all of the products included this month, but the ones I didn’t like so much, were relatively small, inexpensive samples.

A highlight for me was the Keeome face mask. I love a face mask anyway, but in this I have found a product I can use to truly treat myself which really gives me wow factor results. The standout product for me is the Spectrum Brush. I have a void in my make up collection that I’ve finally found a brand to fill. I loved the brush, and I love the choice of brushes in the wider collection and I can’t wait to update the article when I start buying them. Faye 💕
